All the characters and settings have been drawn and animated using authentic paper figures where special care in lighting stands out, an important part of the Papetura plot and a key to the final result. Its creation process, how could it be otherwise, is completely handmade. The first impression is that we are facing a Neverhood meets Machinarium, since it is impossible to escape the memory of the Dreamworks Interactive classic and the slow and beautiful gameplay of the work of Amanita Design.
The plot puts us in the role of Pape, who accompanied by his, his cat? Tura will face an adventure full of dangers and puzzles through a strange world to explore. Papetura is a point & click adventure in a fantasy world entirely made on paper. Devoid of every color but white, and with only these paper shapes suggesting the environment, it’s difficult to say exactly where Pape and Tura have awoken. In the game’s opening shot alone there are sheets of it: curled into pulsing fingers like ocean waves or quilted grass, twee spiraling silhouettes proffering the shape of local flora.
The game was being made for many years, inspired by old classic games like The Neverhood, Machinarium, movies of studio Ghibli, and fascination with architecture and paper sculptures. The Team The team consists of the creator Tomasz Ostafin (Petums), music artist Tomas Dvorak (Floex), and sound designer Juraj Mravec. Together they will have to face dark and flaming monsters which will try to burn down their beloved paper world.
